Ah, it was such a beautiful day. Not a cloud in the sky, the sun a dazzling diamond point-blank in the sea of blue, a gentle, lazy breeze rustling through the trees...it was just at that right temperature where it wasn’t too chilly or unbearably hot. Days like this were rare to come by.
Why was she going inside again?
Kiera repeated the question in her head as she strolled down the sidewalk, shoes skittering lightly across the concrete. She curled her small fingers around the cool, metal bar of the door and pushed it open, a light “jingle” sounding to announce her arrival, and stepped in. The intoxicating aroma of freshly–ground coffee beans hit her immediately, shivering as the chill of the café air touched her skin. Her hazel eyes scanned the place; it was rather small (most cafés were, after all), a comfortable size, dotted with a few tables here and there, and a line of them bordering along the window, bathed in the warm light shining through. Only a few lights hung from the ceiling, low and dim, not really necessary because of the natural light from outside, but decorative nonetheless.
Yeah, now she remembered why she came here. She absolutely loved this kind of atmosphere, it was relaxing and cozy, a great place to go when you need to take it easy or, in her case, people watch. And it was connected to the bookstore, to boot. The place was fairly empty, there were only two other people—the cashier standing idly behind the counter and a woman sitting at a round table typing away on her laptop. Kiera’s lips curved up into a little smile as she picked a small table in the back corner by the window, hugging the sketchbook she brought with her close, and plopped down in the wooden chair. Brushing a loose strand of hair falling from her ponytail back behind her ear, she gently lay her sketchbook down on the table, opening to a blank page. She took her trusty purple mechanical pencil from her pocket and touched it to the white canvas. Her brown-green eyes searched for a suitable subject, only to find them landing on the woman sitting in front of her laptop.
She set to work; with a flick of her wrist the lead swept freely across the paper, light and feathery, the outlines of a shape taking form. She studied the woman: her long, straight black hair, dark-rimmed glasses, the shiny silk material of the bright green blouse, black pants, the golden wristwatch that dangled down her small wrist as she reached for her latté (or what she guessed was a latté, something about her just screamed yuppy). She hoped the woman wouldn’t turn around; she didn’t really want to be seen as a weirdo staring at a random stranger from across the room. She noticed the guy behind the counter giving her looks already- unaware of the smile he’d throw her way every time she looked up. The blonde girl just sat there sketching away, a content grin on her face, enjoying the silence.
+ + + + + + + Summary: Kiera's hanging out at the the Barnes & Noble café. That lady's gonna get up eventually, so she probably wouldn't mind having someone to talk to...
Thread Rating: I doubt it'll get any worse than PG-13, if even that.
Reservations: TAKERU!

fear is only in our minds, taking over all the time
you know you live to break me, don't deny
It was a nice day. The sun was out, the breeze was just the way I liked it, and I was on my way to the Barnes & Noble café. I loved going out to cafés. They always reminded me of Le Douche with their intoxicating smells and homey look. The smell that was not only at Le Douche, but was also at my home.
The warmth of the outside was nice, though. There was a moment that I thought about just ditching the idea of the café and heading to the park. But it didn't feel right to just do that. Something good was going to happen today. I stepped inside, and heard a bell signal my arrival.
It was small. Not the claustrophobic kind, though. It was nice. It was safe. There were a few tables here and there, most of them were occupied. But at one table sat someone very familiar. Someone who I hadn't seen in a really long time. I was frozen in place from disbelief. Could it really be her?
I had to be sure, so I approached the table, though I tried to keep out of her sight. Kiera Rose was sitting with her sketchbook. I saw her glance at a girl accross the room. She was sketching her. Careful not to be caught so quickly, I snuck up behind her. Then, when my face was right by her ear, I spoke.
"What are you doin', K-sizzzle?"

Kiera sat hovering over her drawing, immersed, paying little attention to her surroundings anymore. This always happened when she was on a kick; she’d even quit looking as the woman and had already begun to add in little details that she had memorized. Her hand kept a steady, rhythmic motion, and began to softly chew on her bottom lip, trying not to lose her concentration. And of course, as usual, she failed at this, as her mind began to wander. She started shading the hair, almost robotically, memories of her old school swirling around her head. Takeru, Raine, Vincent and the others...they were all lucky to enroll in the same school together, and promised to meet back up when they arrived. Kiera could feel a frown tugging at her lips. She hadn’t seen any of them yet. But she also couldn’t forget that some had come on different days, and they were probably busy unpacking and stuff...Phones weren’t allowed on the premises, so calling was out...Then again, students snuck things in all the time, she did after all (and wouldn’t doubt it in Vincent’s case with his games, either). Still, she had only moved in two days ago, she certainly didn’t want to bother them now.
With a sigh, she laid her elbow on the table and rested her head in her palm in a bored manner, eyelids sinking, the motion of her hand melting into slow, lazy strokes. She wasn’t even paying attention anymore; the thought of never seeing her friends was much too depressing to—
”What are you doin', K-sizzzle?"
The blonde nearly jumped out of her seat, eyes flying wide and head shooting up, letting out a high-pitched squeal in the process. The pencil fell from her paralyzed hand, rolled off the table and dropped onto the floor. She quickly snapped her hands over her mouth; everyone in the entire café was staring at her with wide eyes with a look of “What the hell was that?” on their faces. Fingers still covering her mouth, Kiera slowly turned her neck to see who the heck had scared the living daylights out of her. What were they thinking, to just sneak up on her like that...
She let out another squeal.
But one of delight this time, not shock.
Her heart skipped a beat. Takeru! Right here, standing in front of her! And she wasn’t imagining it! When did he get here? She hadn’t heard the bell ring—Why was she thinking about it? Who cares, he was here! The blonde parted her lips into a wide smile, revealing her bright white teeth, her hazel eyes lighting up.
”T-Takeru! Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh! I missed you sooo much!” Without a second thought, she bolted out of her chair and threw her arms around the boy. She stayed that way a little longer than necessary, but she really didn’t feel like moving from that spot, like he might disappear any second. After a few more seconds she drew back her arms and let go, but not without smacking him on the arm, almost playfully. ”You little hoe-monkey, you almost gave me a heart attack!” If there was one thing that would send her into cardiac arrest it was getting snuck up on. Which is probably why Takeru and Vincent did it so much. ”I was just thinking about you!” Thinking that sounded a little odd, she added hastily, “When did you get here?” Here meaning Belvedere, obviously. She took a quick glance around the café—everyone was staring at her with a disapproving look, especially the cashier guy (though he may have been ticked for another reason other than the noise). So maybe she was being a little too loud, oh well. She could’ve cared less right now. + + + + + + +

Well, it certainly wasn’t the reaction he was looking for. Her high-pitched squeal made Takeru cover his ears out of shock. Okay, so maybe that wasn’t the best of ideas.. Kiera had caught the attention of every person in the café, and possibly some of the crowd outside. A small laugh couldn’t help but escape his mouth. And then she turned, and let out another squeal, this one seemed louder, though. He couldn’t help but think of what Seth would say if he were here. Wow, Takeru, two squeals in one night! My lessons must have helped a lot. Another laugh escaped him as he blocked out that thought.
Kiera’s shocked scramble wasn’t something you’d see everyday, so Takeru enjoyed every second of it. ”T-Takeru! Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh! I missed you sooo much!” He barely had a seconds notice to register this before she embraced him in a hug. He hugged her back, and enjoyed every moment of the moment. This had been the longest that they had ever hugged. It caused him a sense of awkwardness. The same awkwardness that he’d normally feel around her. Then came the punch.
”You little hoe-monkey, you almost gave me a heart attack!” Hoe-monkey? Her insults were getting better. Another laugh escaped him at he rubbed the spot where her punch had hit him. Then he saw her smile, and he couldn’t help but look into her eyes. Her beautiful, hazel eyes. Takeru snapped himself out of his daze. ”I was just thinking about you!” A sharp jolt struck the bottom of my gut. How often did she think about me? Surely it wasn’t as often as I thought of her. And it would be of us in a group of friends. Takeru didn’t want to read too far into that, but he couldn’t help it. ”When did you get here?”
“Calm down Kiera! Just calm the eff down!” He laughed the whole time he spoke, it was hard not to laugh when Kiera was around. “I just got moved in yesterday, but I’ve been in town for the last few days.” But he didn’t want to dwell long about himself, he wanted to hear about Kiera. When did she get here? The old school had burned down a couple of months ago, and there hadn’t been many chances for them to communicate. And if Kiera was here, did that mean that Raine, and Apollo would be here too? The only other friend that Takeru had had some sense of interaction with was Vincent, and that was only because they now shared a dorm room.
“So how much do you like Belvedere?” Starting small would have to do for now.
