Identification
GENERAL APPEARANCE
Raine’s what you’d call a natural raven-haired beauty (thought she’d completely disagree)—with a slim and small stature, and pale porcelain skin. Her hair falls about mid-neck and is usually worn flipped outwards, though she’ll wear it straight down every once in a while. Her most distinguishing feature would have to be her light, icy-blue eyes. A rather odd shade, she’s been asked plenty of times if she wears specially-colored contacts, which isn’t true. Seems like the pale-sapphire-eye trait runs in her mom’s side of the family.
She may not seem like it, but Raine is actually quite stylish. She likes things that are new and different, but nothing too expensive. It's not like she couldn't afford it, however--a rather handsome sum of the Dufour family treasury was handed over to her grandparents in order to provide for her and her twin brother Apollo's well-being after their parents were killed. Anyway, she usually wears dark skinny jeans and printed sneakers; shirts with cool, dark color tones, mainly black. She also has an eye for tank-tops with unique and interesting designs on them (especially stripes). Another important piece of attire is jewelry. As mentioned before, nothing too expensive, just whatever looks...interesting. Raine always wears a couple of bracelets on her arm, and you'll never see her without her beloved choker--she wears it to cover up a scar her father gave her when she was eight.
PERSONALITY
Raine appears to be cold and distant, and she acts rather reserved with others until she knows them well and feels it is safe to be open with them. She has a strong need for emotional security and a sense of belonging, and tends to cling to people, memories and possessions of personal or sentimental significance.
Raine has been homeschooled until recently, causing her to be a bit quiet and withdrawn when she's enrolled into Belvedere. She sort of blames the world for what happened to her family, making it hard for her to reach out and trust anyone other than her brother, who shares her view. She's not the nicest person, but she has a sensitive side...especially for cats. She has a rather sarcastic and cynical attitude, and possesses a subtle, dark humor about things, and isn't afraid to state her opinion on something when asked. Raine is very down-to-earth and knows how to keep her cool...except when she's around Vincent, who's constantly trying to hit on her. She's not afraid to unleash her abundance of pent-up fury towards him (he totally deserves it). Raine's stand-off-ish attitude makes it hard for her to make friends, but then again, no one's really made an attempt to make friends with her. That is, until Kiera comes along, who helps her uncover a newfound boldness. Raine soon takes to Kiera's kind and nurturing attitude and develops a close bond, almost to the point of infatuation, with her. This could be solely due to the fact that Kiera displays the same qualities as her mother, whom she loved very much.
One of Raine’s primary goals: the slaughtering of the Amakane brothers. Well, okay, maybe she doesn’t want to kill them, but she does have an extreme dislike for the boys (no pun intended). She constantly ignores Uretu’s confessions of love, similar to Vincent’s lame attempts to hook up with her. Her infuriation towards Takeru comes from…well, jealously, actually. Mainly because of the bond he shares withher prey Kiera. White-haired hoe betta’ not mess wit’ her bitch BFF.

Academic Achievement
Marlena Raine Dufour was born in Bordeaux, France, to Miss Annily Dufour, arriving just one minute after her twin brother, Apollo. Eight weeks premature, the twins were born with holes in their hearts, granting them a longer stay in Saint Augustin. Their mother was well-known in the city of Bordeaux, as she was the sole heiress to the Bellefleur family business. The Bellefleur Corporation specializes in health care and medical research and technology, and is even world renowned for its contribution in the field of medical science. The success of BelleCorp hasn’t gone unaccounted for; it holds a lofty spot on the “Fortune Global 500” list.
However, after the birth of her children, Annily decided to leave her high position in order to make them her first priority; there wasn’t a chance that she’d let her work get in the way of the two most beautiful things to have entered in to her life. It was then she decided to hand her position over to her husband, Adrian Dufour, an executive consultant from the American BelleCorp branch.
It was around the age of four when Annily noticed Raine crawl up to the piano bench, striking random keys with her tiny fingers. A proficient pianist herself, Raine’s mother introduced her daughter to the instrument that would later become her all-out passion. Little Raine would watch her mother with big, admiring eyes as her slender, porcelain fingers danced across the keys, back straight, sapphire eyes focused. She wanted to be everything her mother was. Annily knew her daughter was truly gifted when she mastered Beethoven’s “Fur Elise” by age five.
At age six, because of Adrian’s job, the family had to move to America. It was hard to adapt at first, especially at school, since Raine and Apollo barely knew English. They stuck together most of the time, never letting the one out of the other’s site. With their mother’s help, and with the lessons they took in school, the two eventually came around, becoming quite fluent, though still retaining their accent. This allowed them to branch out somewhat, making new friends. Despite being a new kid, Raine was extremely happy, and tried not to think too much about how she and Apollo rarely ever saw their father.
Turns out being chairman of one of the largest companies in the world isn’t exactly a bowl of cherries. The stress was overwhelming…and instead of turning to his wife for consolation, their father turned to alcohol. It started out with a quite a few late nights, which wasn’t all that unusual. But sometimes he wouldn’t come home for days on end. When he did, it wasn’t exactly the most pleasant experience…let’s just say Annily attained quite a few bruises, on her arms and face. Raine wasn’t spared from her dad’s violent behavior, either. When teachers asked about a fresh bruise beneath her eye, she’d simply look down and make up an excuse, flinching when anyone came near her. This same cycle continued for about a year. Then, one night in February, four months before her ninth birthday, the tragedy happened.
The twins awoke to what sounded like a scream from downstairs. They crawled out of bed and tip-toed down the steps…only to see their mother on the floor, knees hugged against her chest, their father standing over her with a bottle in hand. Hearing her children’s cries, Annily yelled at the kids to run back to their rooms. Ignoring her warning, Raine scuttled after her brother until they were standing in front of their mom, arms outstretched. They weren’t going to let daddy hurt her again. That is, until they saw the sharp, shining piece of metal he pulled out of his jacket pocket.
Raine woke up to a white-washed room, an oxygen mask over her face and IV’s running out of her arm. She looked over to see the date on the calendar: May 31st. She had missed her ninth birthday. It wasn’t until later she found out (and after she’d seen long scar across her neck) that she had been sliced across the neck, and sent into a three-month coma. She was overjoyed to see her brother again; he looked well…aside from the scar that ran from the bottom of this left eye to the eyebrow. Physical scars weren't the only kind they made it out of the ordeal with. Her eyes welled with tears when she was told that both of her parents were dead.
The orphans were later sent to live with their grandparents—their only American relatives—in Cloverwood, New York. Their grandfather died with they were eleven, leaving just the three of them. Granny Dufour grew used to their quiet and withdrawn demeanor; Raine and Apollo were practically inseparable. Other than each other, their grandmother soon became the most important figure in their lives. Raine rarely left her room—except to escape to her safe haven in the living room—the piano. She would play with all her heart, she would get better; she would be the best. She’d make her mother proud. After a few years of homeschooling, her grandmother thought it would do her and brother good to get out into the world, to enroll in a real school. After a few days of opposition, Raine finally gave in to her request, and enrolled to Belvedere, majoring in Performance Arts.
